Dorothy A. Blackledge 85, of Rockford, IL passed away peacefully, Monday evening, March 23, 2015 at the Villa of PA Peterson.  Dorothy was born August 14, 1929 in Belvidere, IL the daughter of Ray E. and Helen R. (Innis) Blackledge.  She earned her MA and PhB from the University of Chicago.  Dorothy taught English at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL where she was also a class counselor.

Dorothy was an avid reader and had a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.  She was a former board member of the Boone County Historical Society; volunteered with the Rockford Area Literacy Council and was a member of N.I.R.I.S.

Dorothy is loved and will be missed by her nieces and nephews, Don (Katherine) Black, Lynn (Jack) Gallagher, Charles (Stephanie) Textor, Alexandra Textor-Glanz, Medwin (Bill) Textor, John (Jane) Textor; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Howard Blackledge and sister, Vivian Textor.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 in Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Chuck Olson, of PA Peterson officiating.  Burial will be at Highland Garden of Memories.  Memorials can be given to a charity of your choice in Dorothy's name.  To light a candle or to share a memory, please visit www.AndersonFCS.com
