Doris Lee Kessman, 92, passed early Saturday morning, January 27 with family at her bedside.  Born December 17, 1931, in Worden, Illinois, she was the daughter of Elmer and Helen Dannenberg.  She married Otis Elvin Owens on September 12, 1952 and he passed on March 30, 1965.  She married Gene (Beno) Kessman on May 26, 1967.  He passed on October 15, 2016.  Doris was a faith-filled person who was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere, Illinois.  She worked part-time at Patterson Lumber for many years but mostly enjoyed her role as wife and mother.  She was the consummate hostess as witnessed by the weekly gatherings of family, neighbors, and friends.  She loved to bake often and decorate their home for every holiday and season.  She was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and every team that her sons played on.  "Grandma Sweetie" was known by players and other fans at all of her grandson's games, particularly for her purse full of treats.

Doris is survived by her sons Terry (Pam) and Tom (JoAnne) Owens, grandchildren Joshua and Jacob (Lindsay) Owens, great-grandchildren Chase, Lucy and Clay Owens, sister-in-laws JaNette (Jack) Minner and Gloria (Lynn) Perry, and several nieces and nephews.  Loved ones who passed before her were her parents, brother-in-law Joyce Kessman, sister-in-law Gerry Kessman, and great-granddaughter Elsa.

A celebration of Doris' life will be held on Friday, February 9th, with a visitation at Anderson Funeral Home, located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL at 10 a.m. followed by a religious service at 11 a.m.  Burial will be at Belvidere Cemetery. A memorial has been established at Immanuel Lutheran School.
