Donald V. Smith, 69, of Belvidere, died November 11, 2006 in his home following a sudden illness. Born April 16, 1937 in Belvidere, Ill., the son of Virgil and Evelyn (Allen) Smith. He married Rita Mousel in Rockford, Ill., June 6, 1959. He was Head of Maintenance by the Belvidere School District 100 for 25 years retiring in 1998. He is a graduate of Belvidere High School. Following graduation, he served his country by joined the Navy. He enjoyed Woodworking, reading and puttering in the garage. Donald was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears. He is survived by his wife, Rita M.; Son, Dan (Lisa) Smith, Elkhorn, Wis., Daughter, Julie Vollmer, St. Louis, Mo; five grandchildren, Joshua, Katelyn, Kyria Smith; and Jimmy and Jake Vollmer; and three sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
