Donald E. Penny, 87, passed away on November 27, 2017 after a long illness. He was born on January 3, 1930 in Belvidere to Harris and Mildred Penny and attended Belvidere schools. He served in the US Air Force and army in Korea from 1954-1956. He was employed by the City of Belvidere Water Department as the town's only water meter man for over 34 years. On July 22, 1972, he married Vivian C. Conley at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, raising their two children, Denise and Donny. He was a gentle and loving family man who enjoyed woodworking, gardening, family gatherings and had a special love for animals, especially his Alaskan Malamute and Golden Retrievers.

Besides his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his daughter, Denise (Jim) Behling; son, Donny Penny and faithful companion, Lucky. Also surviving are his grandsons, Trenton and Landon Behling; niece, Laurie (Bill) White; nephew, John (Veronica) Penny; sister-in-law, Virginia Miller; and brothers-in-law, James (Helga) Conley and John Conley. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Father Kevin Butler of Saint John the Baptist Church in Somonauk, IL. A visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the funeral home, and also from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday prior to the service. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery.
