Obituary

Donald E. Harrison, 89, went to be with the Lord, January 18, 2023. Born March 7, 1933, in Keokuk, Iowa to Clarence Tanner Harrison and Bernice Mildred (Huston) Harrison. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1950 and is a Korean War Era Veteran who served in the Air Force as a crew chief. Don married the love of his life Constance "Connie" (Silver) on February 28, 1965 in Philo, IL. The couple then moved to Belvidere where Don worked as a carpenter and eventually started his own business" Don's Building & Remodeling." In 1970, they adopted their only daughter, Jennifer. From an early age Jennifer enjoyed being her Dad's helper with his business and projects around the house. After "retiring" he still enjoyed doing woodworking in his shop. Don was active in the Gideons International for 38 years serving in various capacities. He enjoyed sharing God's love and distributing Bibles for many years. Don enjoyed camping and was an avid bicyclist. Don's other hobbies include photography and bird watching. He especially enjoyed combining these hobbies when he and Connie wintered in Florida. He had a love for old cars like his Crown Vic and fast cars like his Mustang Convertible as well as John Deere tractors. He was a big St. Louis Cardinals fan and Chicago Bulls fan, watching many of the games on tv. Most recently he enjoyed spending time with family and taking his bride of 57 years out to eat at the Machine Shed almost every day.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Delores and Laura (Duane) Freeman; and special bonus family, Way and Amelia Craw.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; daughter, Jennifer and Son-in-law, Mike Hutson; grandchildren, Shayleigh (Craig) Nelson, Sierra Adams, Tanner (Isabelle) Bussan; Great-Grandchildren, Mia, Ava and Sophia Nelson and soon to be born, Eli Bussan; sister, Beverly (Tom) Frey; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2023, at Maywood Evangelical Free Church, 3621 Samuelson Rd, Rockford, IL 61109. The memorial service will follow with military honors soon after. Pastor Dave Currie will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideons International or Serenity Hospice. Family would love to hear about and encourage donations of time or supplies to charities close to Don's heart such as: Veterans' organizations, homeless shelters, food pantries, churches or missions.
