IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald "Gus"
Gustafson
October 30, 1935 – December 20, 2022
Donald H. Gustafson "Gus", 87, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on December 20, 2022. He was born on October 30, 1935 to Harold and Minnie Gustafson. Donald Married Nancy Holtfreter on August 22, 1958. They celebrated 64 years of marriage. Donald served in the armed forces at Fort Leonard Wood, MO for 2 years. After his time in the service he went to work for W.A. Wagner (Silver) in Garden Prairie. He owned Gus's Gulf/Sunoco service station in Garden Prairie for many years. From there he moved his auto repair business to the country and soon after went to work for M.A. Anderson in Poplar Grove. Donald was a volunteer fireman with Boone County Fire District #2 in years past. His proudest accomplishment was Bonus Township road commissioner for 42 years where he formed a second family with some very special friends. Donald fought a courageous battle with his illness for over 8 years. The last few years he always looked forward to his family visits, especially his great grandkids. He was always asking what day it was as Wednesday was their day together. Gus is now at rest and breathing easy.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Scott (Cindy); granddaughter, Tanya (Donald) Walker; grandson, Casey (Erin); great-grandchildren, Morgan and Max; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Judy Wascher; along with several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Rehn; and brother-in-law, Kenny Rehn. Special Thanks to the OSF Hospice Staff, Boone County Volunteer Fire Department, and Lifeline Ambulance Service.
A visitation for Gus will be held on Wednesday, December 28th, between the hours of 5-7 pm at Anderson Funeral & Cremation Services. Located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere IL 61008.
