Donald L. Greenhow, 90, of Cherry Valley, IL (Formerly of Belvidere) passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023. His daughter, and dog Sassy by his side, holding his hand and providing comfort until the very end. Donald was born on August 4, 1933 in Woodstock, IL. The son of Esthill "Rex" Greenhow and Lorraine (Douglass.) On April 19, 1958 he married the love of his life, Sherry. Together they shared 3 children and 63 years of marriage. Donald faithfully served his country and community. He served in the United States Army between 1953-1955 and went on to work for Rockford Screw Products, the Belvidere Post office as a mail carrier, and eventually serve as the Boone County Deputy Sheriff for over 20 years. Donald was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was humble and kind, and will be greatly missed.
Survived by sons, Kevin (Michelle) Greenhow of Altoona, WI, Gary (Gwen) Greenhow of Belvidere, IL; daughter, Julia (Dan) Englund of Cherry Valley, IL; grandchildren, Jeremy (Marta) Greenhow, Brandon (Charity) Greenhow, Dustin (Bethany) Greenhow, Brock (Brianne) Greenhow, Caleigh (Devin) Fox.; step grandchildren, Michael Young, Gloria (Josh) Kok, Jenna (Danny) Durez, Matthew (Jessica) Englund; great-grandchildren, Zephyr, Aro, Scarlette, Axel, Nova, Maverick, Isla, Oakley, and Knox; step great-grandchildren, Parker and Luke; sister, Darlene Greenhow Fry, sister-in-laws, Gloria Mowers and Diana Greenhow; brother-in-law, Neal Peterson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family whom he loved dearly.
He is predeceased by his wife, Sherry; parents, Rex and Lorraine Greenhow; brothers, Robert Greenhow, Williard Greenhow and Allan Greenhow; sister-in-law Dory Greenhow, brother-in-law, George Fry; niece, Donna Greenhow Roepe; and nephew Tad Greenhow.
Donald's visitation will be Tuesday, October 17th between the hours of 9am-11am at Anderson Funeral Home. Located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL. Funeral to follow at 11am, with burial at Arlington Memorial Park in Rockford.
