Donald G. Fair, 68 a lifetime resident of Belvidere, died at his home early Friday morning following a lengthy illness. Born in Belvidere, May 6, 1937. The son of Ralph L. and Florence M. (Poole) Fair. Married Margaret (Peggy) Davies, July 20, 1958 in Garden Prairie, Ill. He was an electrical engineer and was the manager of the Electrical Power Div. of Sundstrand Corp. Rockford, employed 37 years retiring in 1994. He currently was on the Board of Directors of Numeric Co. of Madras, India. He held a number of patents in engineering technology, and wrote numerous articles for various engineering publications. He was a member of the Spring Creek United Church of Christ, Rockford, member of the Breakfast Group and a former deacon and finance committee member of his church. Member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and National Society of Professional Engineers. Member of Cocoa Beach, Fla. Yacht Club, and was a avid runner and participated in numerous area marathons. He was graduate of Belvidere High School – Class of 1955; Graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison – Class of 1960 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering; former member of the University "Rowing Crew" and active in the University Alumni Association. He enjoyed playing bridge, fishing, sailing, camping, and the out-of-doors and loved to participate in his grandchildren's activities.Survivors include wife, Peggy, daughters, Lynne (Robert) Maurice, Caledonia, IL.; and Lori (Mark) Meyer, Belvidere, IL; son, David Fair, Boston, MA; brothers, Richard Fair, Sierra Vista, AZ; Larry (Kathy) Fair, Muscatine IA; grandchildren, Aaron, Ryan, Jordan, Maurice; and Paige, Kirsten Meyer; predeceased by his parents.
