Belvidere, IllinoisDonald F. Smith, 79, of Belvidere, Illinois died Friday, December 19, 2008 in Blake Hospital, Bradenton, FL after a sudden illness. Don was born July 3, 1929 in Belvidere, the son of Earl and Marguerite (Blundusky) Smith. He married Betty Barr on July 14, 1949 in Belvidere. Don worked 35 years for Barber-Coleman as an electrical engineer. He was a member of First united Methodist Church in Belvidere, Belvidere Moose, Florida Elks Club. He was involved with the Belvidere Youth Baseball where he was an umpire with Bill Grady for many years. Don was a past master of the Flora Grange. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a past president of the Belvidere Bowling Association and served 16 years with the American Bowling Congress; but his favorite past time was fishing. He loved to fish the inter-coastal waterways of Florida.Survivors include his wife, Betty; daughter, Linda Mitchell of Brandon, FL; sons, Kurt (Melissa) of Roscoe, IL, Stuart (JoAnna) of Merrimack, N.H.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Chad) Haschell of Riverview, FL, Kimberly (David) Mainwaring, Salem, OR, Andrew and Justin Smith of Roscoe, IL, Megan (Jesse) Hitt of Toccoa, GA, Bryan Smith of Rochester, N.H, Jason Smith of North Conway, N.H.; Nine great-grandchildren, Madison, Aleya, Hunter, Olivia, Anna Marie, Greyson, Ashton, Samuel, Jackson all whom her loved dearly; step-sisters, Beverly (Bob) Carpenter of Belvidere, Carol Larson of San Francisco, CA.Don is predeceased by his parents; brother and sister in-law, Dick and Marie Barr.
