Donald C. "Don" Difford, 57, of Belvidere died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in his daughter's home following a sudden illness. He was born on September 8, 1952 in Belvidere; the son of Donald Clarence and Inez Margareete (Johansson) Difford. Don was married to Karen Garbe in Belvidere on February 15, 2004. He worked at Chrysler Corporation for thirty years. Don served in the Air Force from 1973 to 1977. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. John Hugo Kaiser Belvidere Post 1461. He held the positions of Junior Vice-Commander and Surgeon. He was also life member of the American Legion Boone Post 77. He held the position of Commander four times and was also County Commander. Don enjoyed fishing and golfing and supporting the Chicago Cubs. He is a graduate of Belvidere High School Class of 1971. Don is survived by his wife, Karen; five children, Randy Difford, Anna (Morris) Kennedy, Donald C. Difford, III, Samantha (Matthew) Gaffney and John Difford, all of Belvidere; six grandchildren,three step-children, Heather, Rachel and Melissa Garbe; two sisters, Julia (Bill) Morris, Roscoe, and Janice Difford, Belvidere; and a brother, Jock (Kay) Difford, Belvidere. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Karen Dye.
