Donald F. Bodey, 92, of Rockford died Monday evening, June 30, 2008 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after injuries suffered in an automobile accident on June 10, 2008. Don was born April 6, 1916 in Belvidere, the son of Fred and Bertha (Kronkie) Bodey. Don married Margaret Annis and following her death he married Louise Oakleaf, who also predeceased Don. During World War II, Don worked for Mechanics Machine Co. and drove the Victory Bus from Belvidere to Rockford. He owned Belvidere Garbage Co. for 30 years and retired from Browning Ferris Ind. During the Great Depression, Don was involved with the CCC. He was a member of the Belvidere Moose, V.F.W. social member, Navy Club of Rockford and was a retired teamsters local 325 member.Survivors include his brothers, Keith (Phyllis) Bodey of Belvidere, Kenneth (Judy) Bodey of Florida; sister-in-law, Kathryn Bodey of Belvidere; step children, Ronald (Marilyn) Oakleaf of Kirkland, Kenneth (Judy) Oakleaf of Milwaukee, Carol Westland of Florida; several step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Joyce Johnson. Donald is predeceased by his parents, Fred Bodey and Bertha Leonard; wives, Margaret and Louise; brothers, Robert Bodey and Raymond Bodey; adopted daughter, Sandra.
A memorial will be established in lieu of flowers for the VFW Mailing Fund in Donald's name.
