Rev. Don Norek, 69, of Belvidere, IL passed away suddenly, Sunday, August 9, 2015 in his home. Don was born January 10, 1946 in Berwyn, IL the son of George and Emily Norek. He married Sally Dhooghe on August 11, 1986 in DuPage Co., IL. Don served our country with two tours in Viet-Nam. He was a Captain in the Special Forces; 101st Ranger Airborne-Division. Following his military career, Don served the IL State Police as a trooper stationed in Cicero, IL. In 1982, Don entrusted his life to God; and devoted his life to serving our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through His Glory Mission; to name a few of the many missions or "Operations" the mission provided were: founding of The Joy of Christ –toy distribution, Silver Birch Youth Retreat Camp for less fortunate kids, Operation Baby Bottom and the Sandwich distribution. Don also served our city as a chaplain for the police, sheriff and EMA as well as serving Crime Stoppers and the Housing Authority and numerous other committees.
Don is loved and will be missed by his wife, Sally of Belvidere; son, Joshua and his wife, Nichole Norek of Belvidere; sisters in-law, Tammy (Derrick) Grove of DesPlaines, IL, Vicky Steadman of Twin Lakes, WI; niece and nephews, Zachery Steadman, Kalee Steadman and Brody Steadman; adopted loved ones, Josh Johnson and Bria Pearson. Don is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday August 17, 2015 in Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services at Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Chapel, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 18, 2015 in First Presbyterian Church, 221 North Main Street, Belvidere, IL with Rev. Dr. Robert Kopp officiating. Burial will be in Andrus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in care of Don's family. To light a candle or to share a memory, please visit www.Andersonfcs.com
