Derwood B. Silvius, 96, of Marion, Illinois, formerly of Belvidere died peacefully, Friday, November 22, 2013 in Carrier Mills (Illinois) Nursing Home. He was born on August 17, 1917 in Belvidere; the son of Guy Irving and Maude Marr (Cowan) Silvius. Derwood was united in marriage to Betty Mae (Kronke) Silvius, January 24, 1944, in Belvidere and together they shared over sixty-five years of marriage until her death on March 25, 2009. Derwood answered the call of this nation during the time of WWII by serving in the United States Navy and following his period of faithful service was honorably discharged. He was a family man and a hard worker, and until his retirement he and his brother Darr owned and operated Silvius Brothers Wel Drilling Co. a family business in Belvidere. Derwood was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Belvidere; a life member of the V.F.W. John Hugo Kaiser Belvidere Post 1461 and the Loyal Order of Moose, Belvidere Lodge 295. He is survived by two sons, Guy (Denise) Silvius, Marion, Illinois and Dan (Wendy) Silvius, Cincinnati, Ohio; three granddaughters, Kristie Silvius, Orland, Florida, Emily and Anna Silvius, both of Cincinnati, Ohio; a grandson, Bret Silvius, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Derwood was preceded in death by parents, his wife, Betty, and brother Darr Silvius.
