Jun 28, 1945 — Jan 22, 2019
Deloris Lucille Dahle Shipman Pitkin, 73, of Belvidere
Illinois, died peacefully January 22, 2019, in Rockford, Illinois. She was born
to Clarence and Lillian (Oddson) Dahle, June 28, 1945, in Algona, Iowa. She
loved her older brothers: Merwyn (Judy) and Ron (Paulette). Deloris
graduated from Britt High School and Iowa State University. She moved to
Belvidere in 1967 and taught Home Economics at Belvidere Jr. High School and
Belvidere Central Middle School for 36 years. Deloris taught English as a
Second Language, Continuing Education night classes, and "Whiz Kids" classes
for Rock Valley College for several years. She later became Rock Valley
College's director for Continuing Education. Deloris was the librarian at
Immanuel Lutheran School for six years and worked at Ida Public Library for six
years.
Deloris was married to Roland A. Shipman for 34 years. Their
son Roland A.E. Shipman II was born on his Dad's birthday in 1978. She
loved her "son-RAE" with all her heart. Roland passed away March 2, 2000.
Their son, RAE, married his sweetheart, Stephanie, and they gave Dee two
grandchildren, Sophia and Roland III. She was married to Milo Pitkin for
10 years, who passed July 12, 2012.
She liked to visit and retell stories with her Dahle and
Shipman families from Iowa. She built an extensive network of friends in
her 50+ years in Belvidere. Her favorite hobby was crafting beautiful
hand-made cards for all occasions. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran
Church for many years, and enjoyed bringing friends to Immanuel North to help
grow that location.
A memorial service, celebrating Deloris's life, will be held
at Immanuel Lutheran Church Saturday, January 26, 2019, at noon. Lunch
and fellowship to immediately follow. Funeral services to be held around
her birthday in Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be donated to a
scholarship fund in her name.
