IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Glen
Wolf
December 24, 1946 – January 24, 2022
David Glen Wolf, 75, was born December 24, 1946, in Woodstock, IL, to Harry Wolf Sr. and Helen (Aaron) Wolf. David's life journey shifted to spirit only on January 24, 2022.
David grew up in the family home on South Ann Street in Marengo with his siblings, Harry and Val. He was the youngest of the three and has always been proud to be their brother. David frequently recalled life growing up in a small town where he rode sleds and box cars down the streets with neighborhood friends. He cherished the moments of walking home from the Lutheran School and stopping to see his grandmother who often gave him a nickel and told him stories. He recalled the joys of having a large yard where he and his friends could play baseball. He spent days of his childhood fishing and pheasant hunting with his father. As a high school student, he was proud to be involved with high school football and basketball teams. He enjoyed telling stories about the great coaches, friendships, and the wonderful teachers of Marengo High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the US Army. He served our country from 1966 to 1968 in Germany as a helicopter mechanic. This experience resulted in many stories of the comradery that comes with serving in the military.
Upon his honorable discharge, he began his career in the grocery and meat market business as an apprentice meat cutter at Wisted's Grocery in Marengo. It was during this point in time that his army buddy DW introduced him to Sandra Kerr. David and Sandrawere married on May 8, 1971. They were happily married for more than 50 years and they raised their loving family in Belvidere. David was active in Indian Guides with his son Kevin and daughter Melissa, he also supported Kevin in his interest in soccer and Melissa's bowling endeavors. He enjoyed annual family trips to Leech Lake, Minnesota to fish, play cards, and spend time with his in-laws and extended family. David had a career of 40 years as a journeymen meat cutter. The majority of those years were spent walking to work at Pacemaker Foods (Countryside Markets). In the years leading up to his retirement, David had become the manager of the meat market. He was proud of the work he did and the customer relationships he had built over the years.
In retirement David loved spending time with his family, especially with Sandra and their grandchildren. He found great pride in helping teach Luca, Harrison, and Julia how to hit a baseball, to use tools, fish, and to love spending time together. David was a very loving, supportive, and engaged grandfather. He never shied away from getting down on his grandkids level to play when they were little, and in later years he still often participated in the kid's outdoor activities. He always offered words of encouragement and joyously shared in his grandchildren's achievements.
David found golfing, bowling, and playing cards as a great way to spend time with family and friends. His entire adult life in Belvidere he joined his brother-in-law Rich for Sunday Coffee. In the early years a pot of coffee was shared with his sister Val and Rich. This evolved into the current group of guys that enjoys each other's spirit and love for life in friendship.
David will be missed and forever in the hearts of his loving wife, Sandra; son, Kevin (Jennifer) Wolf (LaGrange, IL); daughter, Melissa (Dominic) Kirui (Hendersonville, NC); brother, Harry (Phyllis) Wolf Jr.; grandchildren, Harrison Wolf, Luca Korir and Julia Kirui; brother-in-law, Richard Alms Sr.; sisters-in-law, Cindy Kerr and Linda (Delly) Mickelson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David is now reunited in peace with his parents, Harry and Helen; sister, Valerie Alms; his mother and father in-law, Arthur and Wanda; and his brother-in-law, Ken Moisuk.
