David "Dave" Alexander Smith, 47, of Belvidere, IL died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family, September 18, 2022. He was born December 17, 1974, in Roswell, New Mexico to Lawrence and Liz (Chapman) Smith. David graduated from Freeport High School in 1992. He joined the Military, serving in the Army and for his country after the tragedy of 9/11. He went on to NIU and received his bachelor degree. He worked as a Production Supervisor for TH Foods in Loves Park. David married Tonya Schultz in Belvidere, October 25, 2013. He loved all sports including his beloved Chicago teams, the Cubs, The Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks. He loved to spend time with his wife and his children on family vacations, loved music and playing Dungeons and Dragons and he certainly loved to eat! Most of all he cherished his time with his family.
David will be missed by his wife, Tonya; his children, Katie Smith, Nate (Trinity Livingston) Smith, Gabe Smith, Jamie Aiken and Jordan Aiken; his parents, Larry and Liz; sister, Clair (Bob) Hankes; grandchild, Lydia Armour; godparents, Connie and Ron Smith; fraternal grandma, Ramona Smith; father and mother- in-law, Robert and Tammy Schultz; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Tom) Mattoon; special friends, Bobby Smith, Erik Erickson, Jason Snapp, Dan and Christine Dein; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces; nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandpa, Leland Smith; cousins, Andrew Smith and infant, Isabel Smith; maternal grandparents, Caroline and Edward Chapman; maternal aunt and uncle, Peggy and Russell Grant; grandparent-in-laws, Charles and Peggy York and Donna Schultz.
A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a service to follow Friday, September 30, 2022, at Anderson Funeral & Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere, IL 61008. Rev. Dr. Allan Buss will officiate. Outdoor military honors to follow in the Anderson Pavilion. A celebration of life will be held on October 16, 2022, from 2 to 6 p.m., at Bethany United Church of Christ, 2341 W. Stephenson St., Freeport, IL 61032. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
