David A. Callison of Poplar Grove passed peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017.  Born July 15, 1938 in Galesburg, IL.  Former resident of Wheeling, IL.   Survived by his nephew Michael (Sandy) Morgan and niece Anne (Joel) Briggs.  Predeceased by his sister Mary Morgan.  Close friend of Wally (Cheryl) Falardeau.  Friend to many.

After earning his Bachelor's degree at Marquette University, he joined the Navy.  Following his service as a Navy pilot, he received his Master of Science degree at Western Illinois University.  He then became Associate Director of Clinical Research at Searle in Skokie, IL, where he conducted new drug clinical trials in the U.S. and Europe.

He always loved aviation and for many years flew his T-34 Mentor and PT-17 Stearman airplanes.  After retirement he moved to a condominium at Poplar Grove airport and bought a hangar for both his planes.  Being an avid reader, you could find Dave reading a book in his hangar facing the runway watching fellow pilots come and go.

He became a member of the local Boots & Bonnets British Car Club when he purchased a 1958 Triumph TR-3 car, the same model as his first auto.  He was also a member of the Vintage Aero Association and the Poplar Grove Wings & Wheels Museum.

Although he kept to himself, he loved to talk at length about his work at Searle and his aviation experiences.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008, followed by a prayer service. Private Interment. Memorials may be made to Poplar Grove Aviation Education Association.
