Obituary

Darlene M. (Sunden) Anderson, 93, of Belvidere, Illinois passed away from congestive heart failure early Tuesday morning, February 23, 2021 at Javon Bea Mercyhealth Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. Darlene was born February 27, 1927 in rural Boone County, the daughter of David and Amy (Carlson) Sunden. Darlene attended Davis Road School, a one-room schoolhouse in southern Boone County, until beginning her freshman year in high school at Belvidere High School where she graduated in 1945.

Darlene married Floyd R. Anderson August 21, 1948. Floyd and Darlene raised their three boys in Belvidere, Illinois, and they enjoyed many years together on Rock Lake in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. Darlene worked at Highland Hospital, Ipsen Industries, and Boone State Bank. She made her spiritual home at the Evangelical Mission Covenant Church in Belvidere, Illinois where she played the piano and organ for over 70 years. It was through her music that Darlene found the most joy in praising her Lord and Savior. Other meaningful joys in her life were watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play in their sporting events, visiting family and friends and her church family.

Darlene is survived by her children Mark R. (Kathi) Anderson of Roscoe, Illinois, Stuart R. (Mary) Anderson of Rockford, Illinois, and Brad R. (Diane) Anderson of Belvidere, Illinois; her grandchildren, Leslie, Marci, Bret, Reid, Corey, Emily, Megan, Brooke, Molly, Kelsey, Matt and Shannon, her 25 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law David (Sandy) Anderson of Rockford, Illinois, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Darlene was predeceased in death by her parents, husband, brother David Sunden and sister Edna (Sunden) Anderson.
