Danny E.
Sullivan
February 22, 1934 – March 17, 2024
Danny E. Sullivan, 90, of Belvidere, IL, passed away with family by his side on March 17, 2024. He was born and raised in Belvidere, a graduate of Belvidere High School, and went on to work for Barber Coleman as a draftsman and served in the United States Army.
On February 11, 1954 he married the love of his life, Nancy (Firnstahl), together they shared 7 children and 70 years of marriage. They raised their children in a home on Garfield Ave, and were deeply dedicated to their family and the local community. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Danny was the secret cartoonist "The Phantom" for several local papers and most recently the Boone County Journal. He was very creative with his comics and caricatures. His artistic talent included drawing comics, writing poetry, and making individual handwritten birthday cards. He loved to bring joy to his friends and family. Danny was a charming Irishman and a wonderful storyteller.
He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Danny enjoyed White Rum and an onion sandwich. (He really liked onions.)
Danny and Nancy enjoyed traveling with their friends, notably to South Padre Island, Texas. He knew the importance of quality time and spending it with those he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sullivan; their children, Kelly (Carla) Sullivan, Terri (Bob) Bergman, Tom (Rose) Sullivan, Kathleen (David) Walling, Patrick (Robin) Sullivan, and Mike Sullivan, he is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, special cousin, Ruth Wheeler; and extended family members and friends whom he loved dearly.
He is welcomed into heaven by his parents, Ruth and Daniel H. Sullivan; son, Jim Sullivan; sister, Claudette Kolkmeyer-Upstone; and mother-in-law, Virginia Durland.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Lisa and the staff of OSF hospice for their care.
Memorial Mass services will be Wednesday, March 27th at 11am at St. James Catholic Church. Located at 402 Church St, Belvidere, IL 61008
There will be a private family burial in Belvidere Cemetery.
