Poplar Grove, IL

Daniel Pittman Wilson of Poplar Grove, IL went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. He was the son of Ruhama Pittman Wilson and Lloyd Wilson. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, he grew up on dairy farms in Indiana and Wisconsin. He graduated from Wheaton College (IL) in 1964, and taught school in Itasca, Illinois. In 1965, he married Patricia (Pat) Moore. Subsequently, he earned a master's degree and an education specialist degree in counseling from the University of Illinois, Champaign. During his 40-year career, he was a counselor, principal, and assistant superintendent. He also worked as a consultant for the Michigan Department of Education in Lansing, MI.

Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Poplar Grove, IL. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, and by three children, Kitty Wilson, wife of Scott Custer, of Lakeland, FL; Sarah Wilson, wife of Tom Rogers, of Woodstock, IL; and Kent Wilson, husband of Elizabeth Wilson, of Macomb, MI. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Wilson and wife, Sue Wilson, and sister, Rebecca Kordatzky and husband, John Kordatzky, and six grandchildren, Jack Jarrett and Lindsay Custer, of Lakeland, FL, Sophie Rogers, Grace Rogers, and Nathaniel Rogers of Woodstock, IL, and Emma Wilson of Macomb, MI, and numerous nieces and nephews. Three sisters preceded him in death, Lynn Johnson of Isanti, MN, Nancy King of Kouts, IN, and Wanita Borchardt of Fort Atkinson, WI.

Dan was active in A Classic Chorale, the Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, and a member of the Belvidere School Board. He was a lay servant at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, a Stephen Minister leader, and a member of the Finance Committee. He volunteered at the Belvidere-Boone County Food Pantry through RSVP. An avid gardener, Dan kept his neighbors supplied with vegetables from his garden and fruit from his trees.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 16, 2015 at Poplar Grove United Methodist Church, 105 E. Grove St, Poplar Grove, IL 61065 with Rev. Christopher Druce-Jones officiating. Burial will take place in Belvidere Cemetery.
