Daniel "Zookeeper" Runyan, 77, of Kirkland, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center after a short illness. He was born August 25, 1940 in New Eagle, PA, the son of Robert R. and Stella D. (Drake) Runyan. Dan was an Illinois State Trooper from 1968-1991. He was a member of Heartland Community Church, as well as a Mason, Shriner, Coon Creek Castors, and the Flora Township Board. Dan enjoyed fishing, and guns. Most of all, Dan loved life and people. He was a great entertainer, liked dancing and being the life of the party.

Dan is loved and missed by his children, Daniel (Kathie) Runyan, Jr; and Jeff (Kate) Runyan; and 6 grandchildren, Kyle, Renee, Kelsey, Matt, Kristie, and Kara. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sandra and brother, Robert.

A visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial in Charter Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
