Daniel Lee Englund of Cherry Valley passed away suddenly at the age of 64 on October 9, 2026, after a lengthy illness.
He married the love of his life, Julia (Greenhow) Englund on November 7, 2014 surrounded by family and friends in Melbourne, FL.
Dan worked as a Service Technician for Window World and then Jeld-Wen Windows and Doors before health issues forced him to take an early retirement.
Dan was a blackbelt in Karate, which is how he met Julie. He taught Karate classes and loved watching the children achieve their goals. He also loved NHRA Drag Racing. His love for drag races began back when he was a kid and his parents would take him, and his brother, to the races in Byron. As an adult, he and Julie would make their annual trip to the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet.
His greatest role in life was being the father of Jenna and Matt. Whether Jenna was playing soccer or volleyball, Dan never missed a game. When Matt was young and wanted to start Karate, Dan joined him and worked together to earn their Black Belts. More recently, when Matt joined a band, Dan was at most of their practices and rarely missed a gig. Regardless of the activity, Dan was their biggest fan.
Dan never met a stranger and was loved by everyone he met. He had the gift to make people laugh and would joke with anyone in his near him. The absence of his lighthearted laughter will leave a deafening silence in the world.
Dan is survived by his loving and caring wife, Julia who never left his side; his amazing children: Jenna (Danny) Durez of Venice, Florida and Matthew (Skyler Exendine) of Rockford; and the apple of his eye, granddaughter Ariya Durez. Dan also leaves behind his devoted canine companion, Tony.
Dan is also survived by brother Richard (Maria) Englund; two Brothers-In-Law: Kevin (Shelly) Greenhow and Gary (Gwen) Greenhow, 12 nieces and nephews, and 12 great-nieces and great-nephews, all who loved and adored their Uncle Dan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026 from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M., at which time a Prayer Service will commence.
