D. Lorraine Thies, 87, of Belvidere, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 in her home. Born March 7, 1923 to Merl and Myrtle (Reid) Finley in Belvidere. Married Franklin C. Thies in Rockford August 23, 1947. He died January 20, 1975. Graduated with first class Rockford West High School, class of 1940 and Hamilton School of Commerce in Rockford. Before marrying Franklin, Lorraine worked as a secretary at the Unit Machinery of Rockford and Green Manufacturing of Rockton . She worked 14 years as the Information and Referral Secretary at Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging in Rockford retiring in 1990. She volunteered at NIAAA after retirement.Survivors include sons David Thies of Belvidere and Orin (Anita) Thies of Belvidere, daughters Carol (Al) Simon of Belvidere, Sharon Carroll of Richmond, IL, sisters Jean (Donald) Thies of Loves Park and Joyce (Donald) Hyson of Winnebago, granddaughter Jen (George) Effler-Leveille of Jefferson, WI, grandsons Kevin (Sandi) Thies of Loves Park, Kerry (Traci) Thies of Belvidere, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
