Corleta Anne "Corky" Steurer, 82, of Garden Prairie, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 in Home Bridge Center, Belvidere. Born October 9, 1928 in Boone County, daughter of George and Florence (Rasmussen) Baker. Graduate of Belvidere High School 1945, Northern Illinois University 1949 and attended the University of Colorado, Boulder. Married Lewis Steurer on February 14, 1967 in Belvidere. Corleta was a teacher for 35 years before retiring in 1984. She taught in Dixon, Okinawa American Dependent Schools, Kishwaukee Elementary in Garden Prairie. Member of First Baptist Church, the financial secretary for the church for 18 years, Ada Stearns Fellowship, life member of the Boone County Retired Teachers, IL Retired Teachers Assoc., and the Sorosis Club.Survivors include her step-sons David Steurer and Alan (Shirley) Steurer both of Belvidere, step-daughter Mary Ann (Ronald) Schrader of Wonder Lake, Niece Kim Lindsay of Durand, 2 great-nieces, 1 great-nephew, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents, husband Lewis, sisters Frances Ford and Bettie Beatty, brother Richard Baker, step-son Gary Steurer, step-daughter Donna Behm, Niece Brenda Baker, nephew John Beatty, great-granddaughter Kelly Steurer.
Memorials may be given to the Frank Patterson Scholarship Fund.
