Belvidere, IllinoisClarabel J. Hass, 84, of Belvidere, Illinois died peacefully in her home on Monday afternoon, February 25, 2008. Clarabel was born June 19, 1923 in Cherry Valley, IL the daughter of John and Edwina (Plane) Thornton. She married Ernest E. Hass on January 6, 1945 in Rockford, IL. Clarabel was the receptionist for Dr. Dettmann for 27 years and then for Dr. Carlisle until she retired. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Belvidere. Clarabel was very patriotic and a member of John Hugo Kaiser Post 1461 VFW Auxiliary and a very active member of the American Legion Boone Post 77Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting making lap robes for the disabled American Veterans for the Hines V.A. Hospital.Clarabel is survived by her sister, Frances (Melvin) Taylor of Belvidere; sister in-law Loretta Burton; brothers in-law Frederick Koch and Wilbur Hass; nieces, nephews; grandnieces and nephews and great grandnieces and nephews and great-great grand nieces and nephews.Clarabel is predeceased by her parents, husband, Ernest; brothers, Harold Thornton, John Thornton, Lowell Burton and sisters, Winifred Koch, Margaret Fair and Pearl Funk; sister-in-law, Ardella Kirby.

A memorial will be established in her name in care of her family.
