Charlene Cushman, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. She was born on November 24, 1941, to Cleda and Charles Wood.

Charlene was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her religious faith, fun-loving personality, and caring heart. Charlene had a special love for animals of all kinds and never hesitated to care for any animal that found its way to her front door. Throughout her life, she was blessed with many beloved dogs, as well as two cherished parrots, Frankie and Johnny.

Charlene’s faith was an important part of her life. She was involved with Evangelical Covenant Church of Belvidere and enjoyed visiting with people who desired prayers, offering them comfort, friendship, and support.

In her free time, Charlene enjoyed being an active bowler, playing cards with family and friends, and, of course, indulging in her favorite sugary treats. Above all, she loved being surrounded by the people and animals she cared for and brought joy to those around her with her warm and playful spirit.

Charlene is survived by her children, Butch Hart, Chuck (Shelley) Hart, Ron "Bud" (Angie) Cushman Jr., Tobi Cushman, Wendy Morgan, Penny (Kevin) Lee; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleda and Charles Wood; her son, Leon Hart; her husband, Ron Cushman; and her brother, Leon Wood.

A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, Illinois. 

Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Belvidere Cemetery in Belvidere, Illinois.

Charlene will be remembered for her loving heart, unwavering faith, playful spirit, and the deep love she had for her family and every creature that crossed her path. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
