Catherine Cline, age 95, of Poplar Grove, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026. She was born on September 4, 1930, to Rudolph Johnson and Janet Gronberg.
Catherine grew up in Elgin, Illinois, and moved to Belvidere in 1939. She graduated from Belvidere High School and later married the love of her life, Ernest Cline, on August 10, 1949, in Belvidere, Illinois. Together they built a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.
A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Catherine's family was the center of her life. She was a faithful member of St. James Church for many years and attended Mass daily, drawing great comfort and strength from her faith.
Catherine was a talented and creative woman who loved crocheting, sewing, woodworking, painting, gardening, and baking. She shared her warmth and generosity through her talents and was always happiest when caring for others. She worked as a cook for the North Boone School District for over 35 years, where she was known for her dedication and kindness.
She is survived by her son, David (Sally) Cline; her daughter, Barbara McCoy; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Robert Johnson and Donald Johnson; her son-in-laws, Larry Steinke and Bill Schultz Sr.; and her lifelong best friend, Deanna Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ernest Cline; her parents; her daughters, Sharon Steinke and Vickie Schultz; and her sisters-in-law, Jane Johnson and Audrey Johnson.
Catherine will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A visitation for Catherine will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Avenue, Belvidere, Illinois 61008. A service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place afterward at Poplar Grove Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Catherine's nurse, Natalie, at Heartland Hospice, for her compassionate care and wonderful support.
