Rockford, IllinoisCarroll E. "Maggie" Magin, 90, of Rockford, IL died Friday evening, November 13, 2009 in his home after a lingering illness. Carroll was born December 25, 1918 in Rockford, IL the son of Louis E. and Laura (Ridgeway) Magin. He lived his entire life in Rockford. He married Evelyn "Lynn" Berre on June 20, 1948 in Court Street United Methodist Church. Carroll worked for Rockford Dairies, Inc., the predecessor of Dean Foods, Inc. for 50 years. He made the very first Ice Cream Bar and the first batch of Cottage Cheese. He served out his country in the US Army during World War II.Carroll was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church since 1960. At one time he served as chair of Membership and Evangelism, Finance and Stewardship, and Wills and Legacies committees. He was a lay member to the Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for more than 20 years. Carroll was a member of the Administrative Board and served as General Chairman of the New Life Mission where he heard about the Contact Telephone Ministry and was instrumental in starting Contact of Rockford, and was the first president. Carroll was also involved and devoted to the Masons, Consistory and Tebala Shrine; Wesley Willows board of directors, North Rockford Convalescent Home board and numerous counseling groups.Survivors include his children, Jeffrey, who was the 24/7 caregiver since July 2006, and Julie; grandchildren, Carolyn and Rozanna (Quentin); great grandson Dominic; special grandson, Christian; sisters, Janelle Mace, Annetta Jean Renstrom, Sara Mae Parrott, Joyce Gronou; brothers, Jack and Tom Magin; numerous nieces and nephews and the Holy Ghost Lowell. Predeceased by wife, Evelyn "Lynn"; daughter, Susie; son, Jimmy.The family would like to thank Dr. Craig Rogers, Dr. Richard Hayes and Heartland Hospice for the care. Special acknowledgements to Clair Powers, Barb Hornbeck, Karen Brown, Geri Ryan and Lisa Sayers for their love, care and support. And to all who have kept the family in their thoughts and prayers, our gratitude is unending.Dad, I will never forget your wonderful words of Love, Compassion, Encouragement, Wisdom, Strength and Spiritual guidance right up to the end. A memorial will be established in Carroll's name and can be given in care of his son Jeffrey.
