IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonnie
Shattuck
February 9, 1934 – December 13, 2022
Bonnie was born on February 9, 1934, and passed from this earth into heaven on December 13, 2022, after a 20-year journey with dementia. She died surrounded by her family; knowing that she was deeply loved. Her memory will be a blessing to them and many others. Bonnie (88) was a lifelong resident of Belvidere and a graduate of Belvidere High School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Belvidere and Heartland Community Church in Rockford where Bonnie was baptized as a Christ follower in 1999.
Bonnie married Jack Shattuck of Belvidere in 1955 and they were married 45 years before Jack passed away in 2000. Bonnie spent most of her life as a mom and homemaker while also serving as a volunteer in various ways. Later in life, Bonnie worked at the Hallmark Gift Shop, Whitney Weddings, Joann Bergen's Clothing Store, and Captrust.
Bonnie was an excellent cook and many of her kids' and grandkids' favorite recipes are ones that have been passed along from her recipe box. She loved gardening, reading, puzzles, candle-lit bubble baths, baking, decorating cakes and Christmas cookies, vacations at the beach, babysitting for her grandkids, time with her sisters, and planning creative activities and parties for her family and friends where she liked turning everything into a game. Her favorite activity, however, was simply spending time with
family.
Bonnie had a wonderful sense of humor which made her fun to be around and she maintained that sense of humor well into the later stages of dementia. She was a supportive daughter, sister, and wife and an extraordinarily supportive mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother; always willing to be there when needed and always finding ways to be helpful.
Bonnie is survived by her 3 children; Sherri (Mark) Bankord, Gary (Pam) Shattuck, and Tom Shattuck (Kirsten Ahlberg), 9 grandchildren; Ashley (Jon) McNary, Casey (Kayla) Bankord, Carson (Collette) Bankord, Dustin (Sarah) Bankord, Jacob (Kelly) Byers, Brock Shattuck (Breanna), Haylee (Kyle) Bahnick, Jenna Shattuck, Evan Shattuck, and 17 great-grandchildren; Beckam, Easton and Braylin McNary, Wesley, Ben, and Graham Bankord, Owen, Bailey, and Nora Bankord, Harvey, Finn, and Austyn Bankord, Emerson, Reed, and Eva Byers, and Sloan and Briggs Bahnick. Bonnie has one surviving sister; Peggy Wolf and two surviving sister-in laws; Charlene Luckow and Donna Luckow. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, daughter Julie Byers, granddaughter Jenny Byers, and daughter-in-law Missy Shattuck. She is also predeceased by her parents Edith (CoCo) and Henry Luckow, 4 sisters Betty Hogfeldt, Lorraine McKissick, Shirley Falkenstein, Donna Whalen, and 3 brothers Lloyd Luckow, Kenny Luckow, and Gordon Luckow. Bonnie, supported by her family, was able to live in her own home through the early stages of dementia.
Her family is so very grateful for the loving care Bonnie received in the later stages of the disease from Anam Care Facility, Heritage Woods Assisted Living, Northwoods Nursing Home, and Rosa and the Heartland Hospice Team.
A private family service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
