Rockford, ILBonnie L. Ekman, 74, of Rockford, IL, died peacefully Thursday morning, July 4, 2013 in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, with her loving family at her side, after a lengthy illness. Bonnie was born August 2, 1938 in Belvidere, IL, where she spent most of her life, the daughter of James H. and Ruth M. (Lambert) Lyons. She married Gilbert E. Ekman on May 8, 1960 in Belvidere. Bonnie worked for G.T.E. in various capacities until her retirement. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting baking; but mostly spending time with her family and grandchildren. Bonnie attended First United Methodist Church of Belvidere as well as Cherry Valley United Methodist Church.Bonnie is loved and will be missed by her children Deborah (Warren) Gross of Belvidere, Daniel Ekman of Rockford; grandchildren Matthew Gross, Jillian (Eric) Metterhausen, Taylor Gross; sister Mary Lou Pundt of Belvidere; sisters in-law Gloria Ekman, Gwendolyn (Robert) Wylie; brother in-law Gerald (Rita) Ekman; many nieces and nephews and her beloved companion "Kitty". Bonnie is preceded in death by her parents; husband Gilbert and brother in-law George K. Ekman.The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center as well as all her friends at the Bickford House of Rockford for their love and care.

Memorials can be given in care of the family for a memorial to be established in Bonnie's name.
