Barbara L. Voorhies, 79, of Belvidere, died peacefully, Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family after a lingering illness. Barbara was born August 27, 1935 in Rockford, IL. Daughter of Seth and Hilabel (Purple) Marvin. She graduated from West High School, Class of 1953. Barbara married James Voorhies on June 4, 1955 in Rockford, IL. She was employed by Barber-Coleman and then for Camcar until her retirement. Barbara was a member of Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, where she was involved with church dinners and the Cherry St. Club. She was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed gardening, shopping and anything with chocolate.
She is loved and will be missed by her husband of 59 years, James of Belvidere; son, Chuck (Deborah) Voorhies of Rockford; sisters, Beth Vowles, Judy (Ralph) Huge, Jill Marvin; grandchildren, Barbie Powell of Rockford, Jayne Voorhies of Texas; great-grandchildren, Graci, Michael, Barbie, Eunice, Deborah; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael; siblings, George Marvin, Carolyn Hienzeroth, Phyllis Gentry, Mary Witherby.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Cherry Valley United Methodist Church, 112 S. Cherry St, Cherry Valley, IL 61016, with Rev. Monty Fox officiating.
