Barbara J. Staton, 74, of Belvidere, died Friday, March 11, 2005 in O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center following a sudden illness. Born February 12, 1931 in Waverly, Illinois, the daughter of Kenneth "Honk" and Elsie (Moore) Mayes. She has lived in Belvidere since 1959 coming here from Waverly. She married Leonard L. Staton in Waverly on April 12, 1952. Employed as a Food Server for the Chrysler Corporation Canteen for 10 years. Member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was a devoted grandmother to her granddaughters. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards; watching soap operas; gardening and yard work. Barbara graduated from Waverly High School in 1949. She is survived by her three children, Debora (Brian) Beer, Malta, Illinois; Dan (Diana) Staton, and Rick Staton, both of Belvidere, Illinois; two grandchildren, Melissa Staton, Rockford, Illinois; Kiana Staton, Belvidere, Illinois; two sisters, Betty Turner and Joyce Betz and brother, Don (Shirley) Mayes; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Kenneth Mayes, Jr. and brother-in-law, "Chesty" Turner.A local visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2005 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home 218 W.
