Arthur "Art" John Vermett, Jr. 73, Capron, IL. Passed away July 4th surrounded by his family while listening to a White Sox game at Saint Anne Place, Rockford, IL.
He was born July 16, 1949 in Harvard, IL. The son of Arthur and Grace Vermett. Art married Diane Elaine Flanders on June 24, 1972, in Harvard, IL. He loved spending time with family and friends, especially grandchildren Evan and Ella.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Diane, daughter Kimberly (Kyle) Crull and grandchildren Evan and Ella Crull all of Capron. Sisters Ann (Stephen) Johnson, Patricia (Tom) Wallace and Brother Randy (Sue) Vermett all of Capron; Special in-laws include, Linda Vermett and Lynn Vermett of Chemung, Gary (Vicki) Flanders of Rockford, Janet and Denny Ellingson, Dawn and David McIntyre of Poplar Grove, Dan and Joan Smaha of Capron; Numerous nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews who he truly enjoyed.
Art was a member of the Capron Lions Club, The Harvard Moose Lodge, Capron Lutheran Church, past Capron village board member and Mayor of Capron and past EMT with the Capron Rescue Squad. He was a registered basketball official with the IHSA from 1968-1997. Art coached basketball for St. Joseph Elementary in Harvard, IL., Capron Jr. High, North Boone High School and North Boone Youth Basketball. Art was instrumental in the Capron Youth Baseball program for 50+ years. He coached at all levels, umpired and took care of the diamonds.
After spending his career in sales, he retired from All World Machinery in Roscoe, IL. He was a very special husband, father, grandfather, brother and coach. Loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Larry and Steve Vermett.
A visitation will be held Sunday, July 9th, 2023 from 4-7pm at Poplar Grove United Methodist, located at 105 E Grove St, Poplar Grove, IL 61065. Services will be held Monday, July 10th, 2023 at 11am, at Poplar Grove United Methodist, officiated by Reverend Dan . Burial to follow at Long Prairie Cemetery. Art's family would like to thank the wonderful people at the OSF Cancer Center and Saint Anne Place for taking the best care of him. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to the Capron Lions Club and Saint Anne Place.
