Anita M. Thies, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, at age 87, passed away on April 24, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on August 12, 1938, in Rockford, Illinois, the daughter of William and Marie Garwick. She graduated from Rochelle High School. 

On September 2, 1961, Anita married the love of her life, Orin Thies. Together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. They built a life centered around family, hard work, and time spent together. Side by side, they raised their two sons and created a home filled with laughter, energy, and lasting memories- there was never a dull moment in their house of boys. 

Anita dedicated many years of her career as a medical transcriptionist, working at Highland Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospital. She took pride in her work and the care she helped support. 

Anita found joy in the simple and meaningful moments in life. She loved riding horses and competing in barrel racing. She also enjoyed relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine. A talented bowler and skilled at cross-stitching, she found happiness in both creativity and community. 

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Anita was a devoted member of Flora Church and Heartland Community Church. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. 

She is survived by her sons, Kevin (Sandi) Thies, and Kerry (Traci) Thies; grandchildren, Nathan (Ashley) Thies, Paige (Travis) Walker, and Gracie Thies; and step grandson, Michael Drane, great grandchildren Leilani Noelle Thies and Emma Walker as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who she loved dearly.

 Anita is welcomed into heaven by her husband Orin Thies, her brothers, William and Warren Garwick and parents William and Marie Garwick. Her legacy lives on in the memories she created, the love she gave, and the lives she touched. She will be forever missed and always remembered. 

Anita’s memorial will be Friday, May 15 at Anderson Funeral Home at 11am followed by the burial inurnment service at Highland Memorial Gardens to follow
