Alvin G. Polnow, 89, of Monroe, WI, previously of Marengo, IL, passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, February 1, 2018. Alvin was born July 22, 1928 in Belvidere, IL, the son of Oscar and Frieda Polnow. Alvin proudly served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany after World War II. He married the love of his life, Lucy Medelberg. Alvin worked for Arnold Engineering for 35 years. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Marengo. Alvin enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was always cheering on the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears.
Alvin is loved and missed by his children, Glen (Lisa) Polnow, Alan Polnow; grandchildren, Kelly and Anna Polnow; sisters, Viola Pike, and Elda Richardson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lucy, brothers, Harold and LeRoy Polnow, and sisters, Alma Nimtz, and Edna Polnow.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 5, 2018 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave, Belvidere, IL 61008. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., until 10:45 a.m., prior to the service. Burial in Highland Garden of Memories.
