Alma E. Nimtz, 90, of Belvidere, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL after fighting stage 4 ovarian cancer since 1980. Born November 15, 1926 in Woodstock, IL, daughter of Oscar and Frieda (Koppen) Polnow. She married Raymond Nimtz on August 28, 1948. He preceded her in death on January 7, 1996. She was a homemaker and dairy farmer's wife for most of her life. Alma was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, was a sub cook at Immanuel School when her children attended there, and also taught Bible school. She was a member of the Belvidere Women's Garden Club, and enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. After retiring, she did volunteer at Saint Joseph's Hospital and Boone County Health Department. Alma enjoyed snowmobiling with her sons, and bowling on a women's league. She enjoyed crocheting and making beautiful afghans for all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is loved and will be missed by her children, Janis Nimtz, Jack (Julie D.) Nimtz, James (Sherri) Nimtz, and Jeffrey (Julie M.) Nimtz; grandchildren, Amy (Doug) Raber, Shari (Phil) Sulser, Kim (Ed Miller) Wegner, Lorri (Bill) Patrick, Deserae (Ed) Brandon, Travis (Tabbitha) Johnston, Ashley (Tom) Zwald, Aaron Nimtz, Andrew Nimtz, and Austin Nimtz; great-grandchildren, Addison, Jacob, Alexis, Samuel, Hailey, Kayton, Skylurr, Noah, Ethan, Zoraya, Meghana, Levi, Carter, Gracie, Hannah, Noah; 2 sisters, Elda Richardson, and Viola Pike; brother, Alvin Polnow; sister-in-law, Shirley Lee; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Edna; 2 brothers, Harold and LeRoy; 3 sister-in-laws; 5 brother-in-laws; and 1 great-grandson, JD Brandon.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, IL 61008 with Rev. Allan Buss officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until 10:45 a.m., prior to the service. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials to be determined at a later date.
