Alice Dorothy Nelson was born September 6, 1938. She passed away on August 28, 2025. She was born in Racine, Wisconsin. The third daughter to Clifford Edward Nelson and Dorothy Ione Nelson (Nelson). Sisters Carol, Marilyn and later a brother George. She graduated from Belvidere High School class of 1956. While in high school she started working at Hodel's Pharmacy and with his encouragement decided to study pharmacy. She graduated From Purdue University in 1960 with a BS of Pharmacy. She started out in Decatur Il. Moved to Colorado to work for Oscar Hodel and then moved back to Belvidere to decide where to go next. Ended up helping various pharmacies in Belvidere and ended up at Anderson Drugs for 26 years. After Anderson's closed she worked at Lenz Pharmacy and then ended up last eighteen years at Walgreens. She loved her Work, getting to know the people and their families. Working in a small town you got to know just about everyone.

Right out of college Alice and 2 of her college friends Decided to learn to sail. Went to Linekin Bay, Maine and Took sailing lessons. Spent many summers returning there To enjoy the beauty of Maine and the water. Continued sailing with her sister and husband in the Virgin Islands, The Bahamas, Northern Abacos, Chesapeake Bay and anywhere else she got a chance. Bought a small 12 foot Sailboat and sailed at Pierce Lake, Lake Geneva, and Lake McBride in Iowa.

The sisters and friends started traveling together. Have been to all of Europe, many river cruises and a canal barge Trip. Also traveled to China, Thailand, Japan, Canada, and Africa, plus most of the United States. Favorite country Italy. Most exciting trips, Polar Bears in Churchill Canada, safari On Africa, and horseback riding trip in Yosemite where they rode over a 12,000 foot mountain pass. This trip was done at the age of 67 after taking riding lessons for a year. All these trips and adventures led to an interest in Photography. Loved taking pictures of everything, animals, flowers birds, people scenery, and particularly Sunsets. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, crocheting, movies and opera. Was thrilled when AMC started showing Live at the Met in HD. It was just like hearing it sitting at the Met in New York.

She loved and was so grateful for all her animal companions she had. Cats--Henry, Homer, Sam Ling, Mai Tai, Cleo, and Pookie and Dogs--Brandy, Ben, Patches, Misty, and Sophie.

In later years one of the nicest times was the annual get together of all the siblings (and sometimes nieces and nephews) getting together at Marilyn's farm in southwestern PA. It was so beautiful with a lovely pond- -to just enjoy nature and each others company. She was involved in many activities, many pharmacy related organizations over the years. Served as president of the Boone Council of Aging in its early years. Was a charter member of Zonta Club of Belvidere and served as President twice. Was very active in TOPS ( Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) serving as leader for many years. Was a Volunteer At Swedish American Hospital for many years.

Preceded in death by her parents. Cremation was held, there will be no services. Memorials may be made to animal charities of your choice.

To remember Alice, every time you see a beautiful sunset, think of her taking a picture and SMILE, she is.

Family: Carol Frye, Marilyn Detwiler, George Nelson and lots of nieces and nephew and their families.
