Alice E. Grigsby Schave 91, of Rockford, died Friday, July 24, 2009 in Provena Cor Mariae Center. She was born July 9, 1918 in Galesburg, Illinois, the only child of Lee and Elizabeth (Tolbert) Brown. She was a graduate of Galesburg High School Class of 1936. Alice was married to Burley C. Grigsby in Ottawa, Illinois on April 21, 1940. He died October 15, 1973. She later married Lester F. Schave in Port Byron, Illinois on December 19, 1983, He died May 5, 1998. A resident of Rockford since 1948, she was employed by Rockford Memorial Hospital in the Medical Records Department. Alice was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Rockford. Alice is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jim) Burright, of Rockford; a step-son, Floyd (Jean) Schave, Mesa, Arizona; a step-daughter-in-law, Janet Grigsby, Libertyville, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jeff Manning, Andrea Drummer, Julie Manning, and Allison (Chuck) Mac Murchy; six step-grandchildren, Brian, Cheryl, Steve, Holly, Carie and Jill; four great grandchildren, Melissa, Breanna, Samantha, and Colton; eight step great-grandchildren, Kyler, Jake, Mattison, Finnley, Camryn, Bryce, Nicholas, and Jacob; two great great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Macy; a sister-in-law, Virginia Grigsby and several special cousins. In addition to two husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucy in 1984 and step-son, Bill C. Grigsby in 2001.The family wishes to thank the Staff of Provena Cor Mariae and Heartland Hospice for their care of Alice.
