Albert Anton (Al) Simon, 80, of Belvidere, IL, passed away on July 4, 2025 after a lengthy illness.

Born April 8, 1945, in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of Elizabeth Ann (Albers) and Anton William Simon.

Al attended Pius XI High School in Milwaukee and proudly served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1970. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, embodying dedication, discipline, and a deep love for his country. Al served as Staff Sergeant in the Military Police, and was recognized as an expert marksman.

On November 8, 1986, Al married the love of his life, Carol (Thies), with whom he shared 38 years of marriage. Al worked for many years in the Belvidere District 100 schools as a custodian and bus driver. He especially enjoyed interacting with the students and took pride in contributing to his community. A longtime member of the Lions Club, Al valued service and camaraderie throughout his life.

Al loved getting away to his and Carol's summer retreat in Lake Mills, Wisconsin. He especially enjoyed captaining his speedboat, often outrunning other boats on the lake with a grin on his face. He also enjoyed water skiing and tubing, and shared that enthusiasm with everyone aboard, encouraging others to join in the fun.

Known for his sociable spirit, easy charm, and unwavering kindness to those around him, Al formed friendships wherever he went. His legacy is one of family, service and friendship. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Al is survived by his wife, Carol Simon, daughters, Tabitha Simon, Lori (Dave Syverson) Perkins, and Jen (George Leveille) Effler-Leveille; granddaughter, Alexis Perkins; brothers, Anton (Linda) Simon and David (Jackie) Simon; sister, Mary Beth Simon, as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends he loved dearly. He is predeceased by his parents, Anton and Elizabeth Simon, brothers , Edward and William Simon, and first wife, Dianna Simon.

Al's visitation will be Saturday, July 12th between the hours of 11am- 12:30pm at Anderson Funeral Home, located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL 61008. Funeral Service to follow at 12:30. Burial will be at Highland Gardens of Memories.
