Abel Vela, 67, of Belvidere, IL passed away suddenly April, 30, 2021 with his beloved family nearby. He was born November 29, 1954 in Batesville, TX the son of Eliseo Vela and Julia Garza Vela. Abel was a graduate of Marengo High School and married his loving wife Margarita Gomez. Abel spent 30 years working for DIA in Marengo, IL. In his free time, Abel was multi-talented musician playing multiple instruments, but best known for playing the accordion. He played venues in Chicago, Rockford, Aurora as well as the numerous Wisconsin locations. Able made his spiritual home at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere, IL. He will be missed by all.

Abel is loved and missed by his wife, Margarita Gomez; mother, Julia Garza Vela, children, Monica (Jose) Vega, Michel Vela, Abel G. (Adelita) Vela, Abel G. (Amelia Garza-Vela) Vela, Amy (Jeffery Beres) Vela; brothers, Hector Vela, Trinidad Vela, Alvero Vela, Rick Vela; sisters, Diana Derry, San Juana Gomez, Maria Vela, Emma Herrera, Debbie Vela, 14 grandchildren as well a numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, Eliseo Vela; brother, Eliseo Vela Jr. and sister, Elodia V. Perez.

The walk-through visitation will take place from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Belvidere, IL 61008. The liturgy of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 14, 2021 at St. James Catholic Church, 402 Church Street, Belvidere, IL 61008. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery.
